History[]

Deviation Games was founded in 2020 by Dave Anthony and Jason Blundell, veterans of Activision's Call of Duty franchise; both men worked at Activision's subsidiary Treyarch and directed several entries within the studio's Call of Duty works. Anthony left Activision in 2014,[1] while Blundell left Treyarch in February 2020 after serving as co-studio head since November 2016.[2]

Deviation Games announced a partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment at Geoff Keighley's Summer Game fest conference in June 2021; as part of the partnership, Deviation would develop a new intellectual property for Sony's PlayStation 5 console. At the time of the partnership, Deviation was around 100 people.[3][4]

In September 2022, Jason Blundell announced his departure from Deviation. In his place, Deviation Games appointed fellow Treyarch alumin Tony Flame to serve as design director.[5]

In May 2023, VGC reported that the studio was hit with layoffs, with approximately 90 staff members being affected.[6]

On March 9, 2024, Deviation Games announced its closure.[7]
