Trivia[]
The cameo select screen has the characters ordered from their latest to earliest debuts on a PlayStation console, with EVE from Stellar Blade (2024) currently being the newest, and Reiko Nagase from Ridge Racer (1994) having the earliest debut. However, there are a few exceptions:
The Helldivers are positioned as debuting in 2024, the year Helldivers 2 released. However, they made their debut in the original Helldivers, which released in 2015.
The Insomniac versions of Peter Parker and Miles Morales are positioned after the Helldivers, implying that they are meant to represent Spider-Man 2. However both characters made their debut in 2018's Spider-Man game, and neither Peter or Miles use their Spider-Man 2 designs. Peter uses his 2018 suit, while Miles' backpack and suit are from Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
All God of War characters are positioned before Kena, implying that they are meant to represent God of War Ragnarök. While this is true for Thor, Thrúd, and Angrboda, Kratos debuted in God of War(2005), while all of the other characters debuted in God of War (2018). However, all of the V.I.P bots use the Ragnarök designs.
Ratchet is positioned next to Rivet, in order to represent the latest game in the series, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (2021). However, Ratchet debuted in Ratchet & Clank (2002), and his V.I.P Bot even uses his design from that game.
All Uncharted characters are positioned as debuting in 2016, to represent Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (2016). However, Nathan, Elena, Sully, and Sir Francis all debuted in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (2007), and their V.I.P bots use their designs from that game. Meanwhile, Chloe debuted in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009), but her V.I.P Bot uses her design from The Lost Legacy (2017).
Raiden first appeared on the PS2 in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001) but Astro Bot uses his design from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (2013).
Polygon Man technically made his debut in 1995, as a short-lived marketing character for E3 1995. Although he made his first actual appearance on a PlayStation console in the 2012 fighting game PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
Kuro of the Doko Demo Issyo series is lumped with fellow series star Toro, who debuted in the 1999 game. However, Kuro would not appear until the 2004 entry, Toro and More Parties.
Most of the generic "sports" themed Bots and the "animal" bots are placed at the end, after Reiko.
Of these franchises, Final Fantasy is the only one not owned by Sony. While it is currently unknown as to why it was not included, many speculate that it may be due to licensing issues with the parent company, Square Enix.
Futhermore, Square Enix was originally the only third-party company to not return from Playroom, as IPs from Activision, Bandai Namco, Capcom, and Konami are all present in the base game of Astro Bot. However, Gex would later be added in the Winter Wonder DLC level.
Cool Boarders, Gran Turismo, Helldivers, Katamari, and Wild Arms were referenced in Astro's Playroom, but only as trophies. In Astro Bot, all franchises have been given full V.I.P bots.
The Last Guy, Omega Boost, and Twisted Metal are the only franchises represented by trophies in Playroom to not return in Astro Bot, although Sweet Tooth can be seen in concept art.
The Pipo monkey captured in Astro's Playroom as a red light on his cap. When transferred in Astro Bot, the light goes to blue as the rest of the monkeys.
