Team Ico was a Japanese game development team within SCE Japan Studio, a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was headed by Fumito Ueda and formed circa 1997; it was eventually disbanded in 2011 with Ueda's departure from Sony that year, and was succeeded by Ueda's independent studio GenDesign.
During its existence, Team Ico belonged to Japan Studio's Product Development Department #1. The team is best known for developing its 2001 namesake game Ico and its 2005 spiritual successor Shadow of the Colossus. Both games received universal acclaim and have been frequently considered to be an example of video games as a form of art.
In 2011 the team collaborated with Bluepoint Games to develop The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, a remaster of both games for the PlayStation 3. The team's final project, The Last Guardian, was first announced in 2007 but experienced a troubled development cycle before releasing in 2016, five years after Team Ico's disbandment.
